Canada Donates 50 Vehicles for Agricultural Extension

  Canada Donates 50 Vehicles for Agricultural Extension The Canadian Government has donated 50 double cabin pick-ups to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) for purposes of strengthening agricultural extension service delivery in the country. The vehicles are valued at GHC10.6 million and were procured with funds provided by Canada for the Modernizing Agriculture in Ghana (MAG) Programme. Canada is supporting the programme with 135 million Canadian Dollars over a six-year period. Since its inception about four years ago, the MAG Programme has procured 265 vehicles and over 3000 motorcycles for the agriculture sector and five buses for the agricultural colleges in Ghana to facilitate training to deliver modernized agricultural extension services. With the additional 50 vehicles, the Programme has supported all the regions and districts in the country with vehicles and motor bikes to improve the productivity of farmers and create market linkages for their produce. Health Sector: Commissioning of the refurbished Male Medical Block and Endoscopy and Laparoscopy Unit

The eighteen (18) bed capacity male Medical ward which was successfully refurbished into a Thirty Four (34) bed capacity Male Medical Ward was duly commissioned by the able Core Management and assisted by guests on Thursday, 1st August, 2019. In attendance were the Municipal DDNS (DDNS Irene Anowa), Regional Estate Manager (Mr. Gordon Anarfo) and the Media (TV3, GTV, JOY TV, JOY FM, etc.) The Hospital Chaplain, Rev. Sackey Addo prayed for the official commissioning, after which he sprinkled Holy water to declare the block commissioned. The Hospital Director, Dr. Kwame Anim – Boamah took the opportunity related that, the expansion was necessitated by the limited capacity to admit most especially referred cases which most often comes in at a terminal state. KORLE BU BEGINS RADIATION THERAPY TREATMENT FOR PROSTATE CANCER

The National Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy Centre (NNMRC) of the Hospital has begun the treatment of prostate cancers with a new intervention called Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) is an advanced mode of high-precision radiotherapy that uses computer-controlled linear accelerators to deliver precise radiation doses to a malignant tumor or specific areas within the tumor. IMRT allows for the radiation dose to conform more precisely to the 3-D shape of the tumor by modulating or controlling the intensity of the radiation beam in multiple small volumes. Speaking to the Head of the Centre, Dr Joel Yarney, he said the Centre had within the past two weeks treated and discharged three patients who had prostate cancers.
